Dailey's Funeral Home, as it was known originally, was founded in February 1928, by Robert E. Dailey, Sr. and his wife Margaret E. Dailey.
Mr. Dailey, Sr. was graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science, Philadelphia, PA. in 1923, and received his Funeral Directors and Embalmers License in Washington, D.C. and Maryland. He was employed with the J. William Lee Funeral Home in Washington, D.C. until February 1928 when he and his wife started Dailey's Funeral Home at 2819 12th Street, NE, Washington D.C., then later at 2025 Rhode Island Ave NE, Washington D.C. The present location 1201 N Market Frederick , Washington D.C. was purchased by the Daileys in December of 1950. Ambulance service was provided for the citizens of Frederick County, both privately and on emergency basis, until these duties were taken over by the fire companies in Frederick City and County.
Their son, Bob Dailey Jr., joined the firm in June of 1951, and was graduated from Eckels College of Mortuary Science in 1952. After serving his apprenticeship, and serving in the U.S. Army, he received his Maryland license in May of 1957.
The third generation of Daileys, Robert E. Dailey III, joined the firm in September 21, 1977. Upon graduation from the Maryland Academy of Mortuary Science in Catonsville, MD., and completion of his apprenticeship, Bob III received his Maryland license in 1980.
Bob Sr. died in December of 1985. Prior to his death he was very active in civic, and fraternal organizations. He was elected to the Board of Alderman of Frederick City, and served from 1958 to 1962. He served as President of the Maryland State Funeral Directors Association, 1970-1971. During his term he was instrumental in founding and organizing the Maryland Academy of Mortuary Science at Catonsville Community College. This enabled future students to receive their degree in Mortuary Science, without leaving the State of Maryland.
Bob Jr. and Bob III are also active in many fraternal and civic organizations, such as various Masonic groups, Rotary Club of Frederick, Veterans Groups, and local Country Clubs.
In 1979, now incorporated as Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A. a second funeral home was opened at 615 East Main Street, Thurmont, MD., with Lawrence Ricketts, as Manager. Lawrence was very well known, and highly respected by many families in northern Frederick County. He was tragically killed in an auto accident in September 1981.
The staff of Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, PA., has dedicated itself to providing dignified service to the community. All types of service are provided, ranging from Traditional Funerals, Direct Cremation, Cremation with Attended Rites, Pre-Need Funeral Arrangements, Military Services, transporting individuals to other parts of the United States, and arranging the return of individuals to Frederick County, that have died elsewhere.
The DAILEY families and our associates are honored to have served thousands of families in Frederick County for over the past 75 years, and are very appreciative of the confidence they have placed in us.
We are very gratified and humbled when these very same families, and the Clergy we serve, tell us "The name Dailey is synonymous with Dignity."
